About This Program

A reflection of ASU’s reputation for innovation, the course is a precursor to the material you’ll learn in the Online and Onsite Masters of Science in Business Analytics, Onsite Masters of Science in Information Systems, Onsite and Online Masters of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Business, Online MBA, and Evening MBA programs, and allows you to earn a qualified professional credential and your master’s degree. In this course, students learn how to select appropriate machine learning algorithms for a given context, implement these algorithms programmatically, and interpret their outcomes to help guide organizational decision-making. Students can communicate these outcomes to both a technical and an executive-level audience. This course is designed for working professionals with some exposure to the technology or data area. This course is offered 100% online and is part of the W. P. Carey Certificate in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business. This course covers data mining and predictive modeling in the context of creating value for business. We will study fundamental principles and techniques of data mining by examining real-world examples. Using real data, code, and hands-on learning provides students with a solid grounding in the key areas of machine learning methods. Additionally, students will learn to think critically and in practical terms about the potential business value of these methods, and the challenges they may face in bringing data mining exercises from ideas to business actions. Students will learn to approach business problems and envision opportunities analytically. They will learn to apply data mining techniques to improve business performance and help make better-informed decisions in a given business environment. Students can formulate problems based on real-world data and develop and evaluate predictive models using the various data mining techniques discussed in the course. This class is also part of the W. P. Carey Certificate in AI in Business. The certificate can either be completed for no academic credit or applied courses to the following options (upon enrollment): Online and Onsite Masters of Science in Business Analytics, Onsite Masters of Science in Information Systems, Onsite and Online Masters of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Business, Online and Evening MBA degrees at Arizona State University.
