About This Program

Independent journalism is essential for democracy, accountability, and informed citizenship. Yet media organisations across Africa face an existential crisis: declining advertising revenues, platform and AI disruption, eroding public trust, and the challenge of digital transformation. This four-month part-time programme was created to address this crisis by investing in the people who lead these organisations. It equips senior media professionals with the strategic insights and leadership skills required to drive sustainable transformation. EPML is designed specifically for the leadership, sustainability, commercial and technological challenges shaping media across the continent. The 2026 programme includes significantly expanded AI learning, with hands-on sessions covering prompt engineering, workflow automation, practical experimentation, and building an AI roadmap for your organisation. Participants work on real strategic challenges from their own organisations and leave with actionable solutions they can implement. EPML follows a hybrid format: Block 1 in-person at GIBS Johannesburg, Blocks 2 and 3 online, and Block 4 in-person capstone presentations at GIBS.
