    About This Program

Health systems today face growing challenges in ensuring timely and equitable access to innovative health technologies while maintaining financial sustainability. This is especially evident with the increasing availability of high-cost medicines, such as gene and cell therapies, often launched with limited clinical evidence and high uncertainty regarding their realworld effectiveness and budgetary impact. In this context, pricing and payment schemes have been proposed as practical tools to address these challenges. As a result, pricing and reimbursement decisions are becoming more complex, as traditional models struggle to accommodate innovative technologies with unique characteristics and novel modalities of care and delivery. This course responds to a concrete and timely need: helping professionals understand how pricing and payment mechanisms are currently leveraged , or can be strategically deployed, to balance access to innovation with affordability of the healthcare systems in the European Union . Drawing on cutting-edge research outputs conducted within European Commission-funded research framework, specific tools, real-world cases and policy implications, the course will provide participants with comprehensive insights on different types of pricing and payment schemes for pharmaceuticals and medical devices (including annuitybased models for ATMPs, outcome-based agreements, subscription models for antibiotics, indication-based pricing for multi-use drugs), and on how to identify the most appropriate pricing models given specific objectives or needs.
